Thompson Law, PLLC Attorney Travis Benson is now a certified Farm Succession Coordinator! He completed his certification in the fall of 2017 through the International Farm Transition Network (IFTN). Following the farm crisis, IFTN was founded to promote and provide support to farmers and their families on strategic business planning, management, and succession planning. IFTN has devoted 25 years to supporting and promoting programs that help farming families plan for the transfer of their legacy. Just like Thompson Law, PLLC., IFTN recognizes that legacy is important to family owned farms. Coordinators go through extensive training on how to best assist farmers and ranchers.
Part of the planning and succession process is ascertaining clients’ values, vision, mission, and goals. Having grown up on a small farm in South Dakota, Travis knows these are important steps: “Our education and learning does not stop when it is about keeping a family a family and a farm a farm. We can never improve too much when it comes to helping our clients navigate how to pass on their legacy. We value our time representing farmers and ranchers, which make up almost 70% of our clients, and are blessed to work with such honest and hardworking people.”
